Representative Jared Huffman stepped forth this Monday to rebuke one of President Trump‘s insults for a Democratic lawmaker to launch attack against Education Secretary Betsy DeVos after her recent appearance on “60 Minutes.”
“Dear President Trump, if you want to meet someone who has an actual IQ problem (as opposed to just being black), meet your Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. Rich, white, and dumber than a bag of hammers,” Huffman wrote.
DeVos seemingly struggled during her interview to properly answer simple questions about public schools’ performance, especially when in regards to her home state of Michigan. Public schools performance have dipped off significantly, interviewer Lesley Stahl noted, despite school choice policies which DeVos has championed.

DeVos, a Republican mega-donor, was heavily scrutinized pick to spearhead the Department of Education due to her controversial support for charter schools and tuition vouchers that use dip into public funds. She was narrowly admitted as the nominee to lead the department, with Vice President Pence decided the tie-breaking vote in her favor.
Huffman’s attack on DeVos’s IQ follows days after Trump branded Representative Maxine Waters “a very low IQ individual” while giving a speech during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
Waters has stood as a fierce and vocal critical of Trump’s rhetoric and policies. She was among 60 Democrats who cast their votes back in December to initiate impeachment proceedings against the president.
She stated this Sunday that she is not intimidated by the president’s attacks, and vowed to continue her criticisms of him.
